Dale Hausner was convicted of more than 80 crimes, and sentenced to death six times for his crime spree in Arizona that lasted fourteen months. The urge to categorize people seems almost impossible to resist. In this case, in the category of serial killers, Dale is the epitome of a coward. While it may be outside of your understanding, most serial killers are hands on with the blood, gore and despair they bring to those they kill. They don't kill from a distance. Dale was a coward for sniping off innocent people he didn't even know, avoiding their actual death and the resulting wounds. In the end he took his own life, unable to deal with the control the DOC held over his life.
