Jan Jones (Janeene Jones Baylor) was featured on the first ever episode of American Monster. She is serving two life sentences after a plea deal she made for two counts of willful first degree attempted murder. She was caught on several videos making arrangements to have a business associate and her current husband killed. While this was going on she was taking ownership of abandoned houses in the area due to the real estate bubble bursting. The community is rampant with rumors of others she tried to kill via poison. The above mentioned videos were featured in this episode.
The community of Englewood/Port Charlotte/North Port is fairly small. Jan and Max were very active in their church, Suncoast Worship Center. Max played bass guitar weekly and did other work as well. Jan was not as active, but would donate time every now again in the nursery or doing other things. They were known by many people in the community. You would be very hard pressed to find someone willing to say something bad about Max. He was never abusive to Jan and she never had unexplained bruises or injuries. It's horrific that she likely murdered him and then attempted to destroy his reputation as well. According to the Herald Tribune, "Donald Jones, of Englewood, said his son Max died of heart failure at the age of 52 in 2011 while married to Janeene.Now, Donald thinks his son’s death was more malicious than natural. He said Max was in the hospital with a staph infection when Janeene came to take care of him one night. He said Janeene give Max a shot, which she said was insulin." Read the entire article here.
Last but not least, her first husband, Max, died under mysterious circumstances and unexpectedly. She had his body creamated before an autopsy was performed since at first glance it appeared to be a heart attack. This death granted her one million dollars in life insurance. Police believe she murdered him.
Jan, as she is called has a LONG history of manipulating others to get what she wants. She is not a nice person. Her children are estranged from her by choice. If you choose to right to her (everyone needs support to head down the right path) do not contact any of her family members by her request. If they want to reach out to her, they know exactly where to find her.
She is currently out of custody for her appeal in Sarasota Florida. When she is returned to prison, this will be updated. Update: All of her appeals have failed to date.
