In Sickness and in Health Jason Risenburg and Beth Risenburg

In Season four, episode six, the story of Beth Spaulding and Jason Risenburg is shown, this does not end well for Beth as she ends up dead. ID describes this episode as: When outgoing Beth Spaulding and shy Jason Risenburg meet, it looks like a match made in heaven; however, illness and bad luck trigger a tornado of lies and deception that tears them apart. This happens in the state of Ohio.

You can not write to Jason as he appears to have been released.

Beth Spaulding is sorely missed by her family and they are active in the community regarding justice for other victims. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter hence the lenient sentence.

  1. I'm Beth's mother Maureen Spaulding. Jason is still incarcerated and will be until 2024.
Jason admitted his guilt in this case but that won't bring Beth back. Jason was given 11 years in prison but that won't bring Beth back. I, like you, have watched a lot of murder documentaries and stories on television and in the movies and in the end they always wrap it up with a little bow and say see, the case is solved. Thing s the case is never solved for those who are dealing with the pain of the loss. It's been 8 years since I lost my baby girl and in some ways it feels like 8 minutes and another's 80 years. I feel like it's been a lifetime since I was able to hug her and laugh with her and yet I still hear that phone call in my ear as if I just hung up the phone. I lost Beth's dad to cancer not that long ago after being together for 40 years, since we were kids. Then just weeks later we lost his mother unexpectedly so it's just my son and I now and he is my everything. I hope no one and I do mean no one, ever has to live through this kind of thing again but I know that is an unlikely outcome. I can only hope that if anyone does have to live through this kind of nightmare that they are able to get Justice and eventually they know what happened. Not knowing what happened is what makes the night so very long. It's the not knowing exactly what happened that is terrible because your brain fills in those blanks. Unfortunately for some of us the reality is worse than what we could have possibly imagined and for those of you who find yourself in that situation there are people out there who can help. PLEASE reach out to the courts and local hospitals. They can link you to specialists in the area of trauma and the terror you may be dealing with. If you are one of those parents or family or friends I'm always here to listen.

    1. I just got done watching American Monster. There have been just a couple of the episodes that just really got to me and had me crying. This was one of them. I feel like if I had known Beth we would of been great friends because I see so much of myself in her. People like her are hard to find so it makes it even harder when you hear that they are gone. I went through years of domestic abuse almost being killed. It makes me angry that Jason received 11 years because either way you look at it he took a life. He shouldn't be allowed to have one and should be jailed for life like other murderers so he has to live with what he has done. Beth doesn't get a second chance so he shouldn't either. I bet sweetie pie hurt too wondering where her mama went. I don't have kids either. I have rescue dogs. I don't know beth but I love the person she was.

    2. Beth was a loving soul and I believe she still is.
I hope you are surrounded by people like her now, you deserve to be loved and you are strong enough to fill your life with people who deserve you.
I know that you are because you got out of one the hardest situations people can face.
Men and women deal with abusive relationships and they both struggle to get out and then they are left with the fear of being alone and telling their story.
When you made your post I knew you were strong and that you were definitely going to be ok and find happiness and kindness.
You're welcome to connect with me on Facebook, I'd love to chat with you and check in on you. - Maureen Spaulding
